GAMES MEDICAL SERVICES

Provision of the intended medical services, noted below, is subject to review and confirmation by the CGF.

BahamasCYG2017 will provide medical services at all sporting venues during the Commonwealth Youth Games, complete with staff of Medical Doctors, Nurses, and Therapists as well as up to fifty volunteers.

Please direct all overnight medical attention to Dr. Ricky Davis, Medical Director for care at medical@cygbahamas.com.

Areas for therapies and recovery will be provided at each Sporting Venue and college Team Accommodation. If Teams wish to bring massage tables/therapy beds or other recovery equipment they are welcome to do so and must be responsible for the proper use and storage of the equipment. No massage tables/therapy beds will be supplied by BahamasCYG2017 except for those for use by BahamasCYG2017 medical staff/volunteers. All the required medical equipment and first aid kits will be available for each sport as dictated by the relevant International Sport Federation rules and regulations. Further information, including hours of operation, will be provided in Team Leader Manual Version 2.

FIRST RESPONSE

First Response will be provided by National Health Services ambulances, as well as, the Red Cross at each Sporting Venue.

HOSPITAL SERVICES

Emergency and in-patient treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and transport to the hospital by ambulance, if required, will be provided free of charge. A 24 Hour Accident and Emergency Service is provided at the PMH located at the centre of New Providence. In-patient treatment will only cover injuries sustained during the period of the Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games 2017 free of charge.  Any care for pre-existing medical conditions will be dealt with on an emergency basis only, if required, and any further ongoing care will not be covered free of charge.

IMPORTATION OF MEDICATIONS AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES

For any medications and medical supplies intended to be imported into The Bahamas, prior approval must be obtained from the Ministry of Health.  A detailed procedure will be provided early 2017.

PHARMACY AND PRESCRIPTION SERVICES

Prescriptions required for emergency treatment and injuries contracted during the period of the Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games 2017 will be provided to all CGAs free of charge.

DENTAL SERVICES

BahamasCYG2017 will provide free of charge emergency dental treatment (as detailed below) through the PMH Emergency Dental Services for all athletes. Coverage for emergency dental work is from Monday July 17 – Sunday July 23, 2017.

TEAM DOCTORS

For CGAs wishing to bring their own Team Doctors to the Games, approval and license to practice in The Bahamas is required by the Ministry of Health.  A detailed procedure to obtain the required licensing will be provided by our medical services team upon request.

INSURANCE

The LOC will provide public liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance as well as medical insurance cover that provides coverage for any emergency and first aid cost occurring during the Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Games 2017.
