Despite the gloomy start, the young athletes showed passion to persevere in their respective sports though nature would seemingly deter them.
The third day of the Commonwealth Youth Games 2017 would host a series of events from aquatics to athletics to beach volleyball and soccer, boxing, rugby and tennis.
The first rugby match of the day kicked off at 9 am between the men of Fiji and Samoa, where Fiji took the win by a close call of a score of 15 to 14. However, in their second match of the day verses Bermuda, Fiji’s women’s team won the game 50 to 5.
The Bahamas’ men’s team played Canada today in which they were defeated 42 to 0. Nevertheless, spirits were high to represent their country. Chants of “Be ready for war” echoed from the field as they prepared themselves for their final game of the day. However, in the afternoon match against Sri Lanka, the men were defeated again but spirits kept high. Team members from the sidelines cheered them on to persist despite the hard defensive play by the Sri Lankan team.
The last match of the day took place between the women’s team of Australia and Canada where Australia stole the game 24 to 17. Hard defense was played by Canada who stepped up their points in the last half of the game, but it was Australia who prevailed in the end.
